LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Lionsgate has bought the distribution rights to the Toronto buzz title 'Imogene.' The sale was announced on Monday at the Toronto International Film Festival by Lionsgate President and COO Steve Beeks, and Roadside's Co-President Howard Cohen.
With the film, the indie darlings, Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini ('American Splendor') return to the world of dark comedy with a Saturday Night Live star as their lead. Kristen Wiig plays Imogene, a once promising young New York playwright whose potential has fizzled, thanks to a crippling crisis of confidence.
The film will be a joint theatrical release by Lionsgate and partner company Roadside Attractions. It is the first film produced by Celine Rattray ('The Kids Are Alright') and Trudie Styler under their Maven Pictures banner, with Alix Madigan and Mark Amin. Michelle Morgan, an SNL pal of Wiig's, wrote the screenplay.
